Pho Hong Phong is a Vietnamese restaurant tucked into a quieter area of Thornhill, making it a spot where locals come specifically for the food rather than the buzz of a busy strip. The interior is clean and thoughtfully designed, with traditional Vietnamese touches that create a calm, welcoming atmosphere — think warm lighting paired with rattan basket elements that gently evoke a Southeast Asian vibe without feeling overdone.

This place suits diners looking for a relaxed lunch or dinner with friends and family, especially those who appreciate authenticity in Vietnamese cuisine. The service is attentive without being intrusive, partly due to the restaurant’s modest size which allows staff to stay on top of tables easily, even on busier days.

On the menu, the pho dishes stand out, particularly the rare beef pho, which arrives with generous portions of meat and a broth that balances flavors without overwhelming saltiness. Several guests have noted the grilled pork dishes as well — the lemongrass aroma and slightly charred edges add an appealing contrast, complemented by fresh, shredded lettuce and lightly pickled vegetables that cut through the richness. This balance of savory with fresh is a recurring theme, visible in other dishes like their grilled pork with steamed rice or the black tea infused with kumquat, which lends a subtle citrus note perfect for pairing with the heartier meals.

Portion sizes tend to lean generous, making it a reasonable choice for those wanting a filling meal without feeling rushed. The Vietnamese crepe and other traditional appetizers offer flavorful bites, though some find those portions smaller compared to the main dishes. Pricing is a notch above average for the neighborhood, which aligns with the emphasis on quality ingredients and presentation visitors have observed.

If you’re planning a group visit, the restaurant handles reservations smoothly and can accommodate mid-sized parties comfortably, making it a spot for casual gatherings rather than loud celebrations. The overall vibe stays on the quieter, more intimate side during weekday lunches and early dinners, which might be a better time if you prefer a calm dining experience.

In short, Pho Hong Phong fits well for locals or visitors who prioritize authentic Vietnamese flavors served in a neat, inviting space, free from heavy crowds or overly flashy décor. It’s a place to come for familiar comfort food with thoughtful execution, especially when craving a balanced bowl of pho or grilled pork dishes with fresh accompaniments.

Delicious food, great service, the beef salad with lime is exceptional! It's a big portion of deliciousness and definitely worth the cost! Their Vietnamese crepe has great taste but portion isn't as big. Their pho soup tastes amazing and has quite a bit of meat in it, so this is definitely worth it as well. Overall, great bang for the buck and highly recommend trying their food out at least once! You might get hooked!

Stepping inside, you’re greeted by rattan baskets and warm lighting, clean, airy, and with a relaxed Southeast Asian vacation vibe. Grilled Pork You can really smell the lemongrass. The sweet–savory glaze and charred edges lock in the juices. The shredded lettuce, pickled carrots, and cucumber keep it fresh alongside the meat. Some fatty bits can be a little rich, but overall it’s delicious. Grilled Beef Charred and sweet, savory in the best way. Well marinated with a hint of honey/sugar caramelization, and a base of garlic and black pepper. Perfect with the white rice. Rare Beef Pho Clear, bright broth, naturally sweet at first sip, followed by gentle spice aromas. The beef slices turn tender in the hot soup. A very comforting bowl on a cold day. Vietnamese Iced Coffee milk forward and on the sweeter side but not cloying. Smoothand distinctly Vietnamese. I loved it! Overall, the rattan lamps and bamboo decor create a warm, cozy space with comfortable table spacing, easy to chat without noise. Dishes taste clean and consistently good. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

Food is actually good, they charge higher prices for better quality. But as I've stated, their price is higher then the norm, especially when it's located at a secluded area. Service is good, the restaurant is small, so the waitress can easily see you. New place, so interior is clean and comfortable. There is some thought in the design

The staff were professional and friendly. I ordered the Vietnamese rare beef and chicken pho — the flavor was well-balanced (not too salty), the portions were generous, and the ingredients were authentic. I’ll definitely come back again!

Beautiful and clean space, we love the traditional decor all over--feels like we've been transported to Vietnam. The food is very tasty, we enjoyed everything! Didn't get to take pictures of all of them but the presentation and taste were great. The service is prompt and friendly, very professional. We reserved a table for our group of 10 for lunch. Place is half busy at the time but we were seated and the wait for the food was reasonable. Will definitely be back!

Good atmosphere, good food, and some unique menu options. My father-in-law especially enjoyed the tapioca noodles. My vermicelli portion was large, and I ended up taking exactly half home as leftovers. We visited on a Wednesday evening, and it became quite crowded, so the service wasn’t the best. We received only 2 napkins for 3 adults, and the extra napkins we requested never arrived. We would try this place again in the future and hope to see some improvement next time.

It's like a portal into a different world set among car shops. Their broth is deep with flavour. I had the bun rieu and it was a good value at about $21 and includes a whole soft shell crab with roe served distinct from the soup with the proper blood cubes. Only thing I'd add is a side serving of mam ruoc/tom which was missing. Lots of unique appetizers not seen in other Pho places. Nice tropical decor albeit the tables felt a bit sticky. Our server was new and didn't know what she was doing but their food made up for it. Cash and debit.
